The city of Florence is known for its art and history, as the cradle of Renaissance and famous worldwide for the great minds that is generated: Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Dante -the father of Italian language- we sometimes wonder if its food and wine tradition are not sometimes overshadowed by this overwhelming heritage. Yet, some of the best Italian wines and recipes were born here, and not only… Did you know that much of French cuisine can be traced to Florentine renaissance traditions? Our walking Florence wine tours are dives into the rich heritage of Florentine food. It starts with a wine tasting in one of the most famous wine shop of Santa Croce neighborhood. Your FoodAmbassador will tell you about the varieties of Tuscan wine and the story behind the producer of the wine you will taste, before moving towards around Sant’Ambrogio neighborhood: an area loved by locals because it’s away from the big crowds yet in the city centre, considered to be the culinary and cultural heart of Florence because of its restaurants, markets, shops and theatres. Here you’ll find -but not visit!- the only restaurant in Florence that has been awarded three Michelin stars.
We will visit a local bakery and taste some Tuscan bread -known as Pane sciocco (silly bread). Little by little you will immerge yourself in Sant’Ambrogio area and feel like a local, because the neighborhood still keeps a popular and genuine soul. Only during the lunch food tour you will visit the market of Sant’Ambrogio (closed at night), where local producers sell fruit, vegetable, meat, cold cuts and cheeses.
And since we want your food experience in Florence to be authentic, remarkable and unique, one of the main stops will be a family-run restaurant, where you will feel the Italian hospitality and taste two samples of home-made pasta with two different sauces… and some great wine of course! During the tour you will also have the possibility to sample local cold cuts and cheeses, crostini and the famous lampredotto that can be found only in Florence. Our mission is to take you on a leisure food walk, to taste the best food and wine in town while showing you the most pleasant face of the city and telling you the most interesting stories about the real souls of the city. And what best to end our food tour than to enjoy an artisanal gelato in the simplest yet most renowned gelateria of Florence, that has been around for almost 90 years?
